Printer not printing
Most printing problems are a stuck print job, a printer that needs a restart, or the wrong printer selected. Try these in order.
All the steps on one page
- 1
Check the printer itself
Make sure the printer is switched on, has paper, and shows no error light or message. If the screen shows a paper jam, switch the printer off first, because parts inside can be hot. Then open the covers it points to and gently pull out any paper you can see.
- 2
Restart the printer
Switch the printer off, wait 30 seconds and switch it back on. Wait until it says it is ready before you print again.
- 3
Clear stuck print jobs
In Windows, open Settings, then Bluetooth & devices (on Windows 10, Devices), then Printers & scanners. Choose your printer, open the print queue and cancel every document in it. Then print again.
- 4
Check which printer you are printing to
In the Print window, look at the printer that is selected. It is easy to print to an old printer or to "Microsoft Print to PDF" by mistake.
- 5
Restart your computer
Save your work, then choose Start, Power, Restart. Restart is better than Shut down here, because it fully resets Windows.
