Can’t send or receive email
First find out whether the problem is your email account or just the email app on your computer. The browser test below tells you which.
All the steps on one page
- 1
Restart Outlook
Close Outlook completely and open it again. If the bottom of the window says "Working offline", go to the Send / Receive tab and switch Work Offline off.
- 2
Check the Outbox
If emails are sitting in the Outbox, a large attachment is often the cause. Delete the stuck copy from the Outbox, then send the email again without the attachment, or share the file as a OneDrive link instead.
- 3
Restart your email app
If you read Gmail in Outlook or another email app, close it fully and open it again. If you use Gmail in the browser, try a private window or a different browser.
- 4
Restart your computer
Save your work, then choose Start, Power, Restart. Restart is better than Shut down here, because it fully resets Windows.
When to contact us
- If email doesn’t work in the browser either, the problem is with the email account or its settings, not your computer. Raise a ticket and we’ll check the account.
- Those were the safe checks. Raise a ticket and an engineer will take it from here, remotely or on site.
